Lunae Palus

The Lunae-Palus - degree field one of the 30 degree field of Mars . They were established by the United States Geological Survey ( USGS ). The number is MC-10, the degree field covers the area from 45 ° to 90 ° west longitude and from 0 ° to 30 ° south latitude .

Lunae Planum , Chryse Planitia and parts of Xanthe Terra are located in the Lunae Palus Gradfeld, and it also contains many former river valleys. The Viking I Lander landed here on July 20, 1976.

The name comes from an albedo feature on Mars, the area was named after the Roman lunar deity or the African moon mountains from which the Nile rises .
