Oxia Palus (Gradfeld)

The Oxia-Palus - degree field one of the 30 degree field of Mars . They were established by the United States Geological Survey ( USGS ). The number is MC-11, the degree field covers the area from 0 ° to 45 ° west longitude and from 0 ° to 30 ° south latitude .

The name comes from an albedo feature on Mars, the area was named after the Amu Darya river , which was called "Oxus" in ancient times. The Mars Pathfinder landed here on July 4, 1997. The craters within the Gradfeld bear the names of the “Who's Who” of astronomy, for example Galileo and Leonardo da Vinci , but also Curie , Becquerel , and Rutherford .
