Margaritifer Sinus (Gradfeld)

The margaritifer sine - degree field one of the 30 degree field of Mars . They were established by the United States Geological Survey ( USGS ). The number is MC-19, the degree field covers the area from 0 ° to 45 ° west longitude and from −30 ° to 0 ° south latitude .

The name comes from " Pearl Bay " on the Pearl Coast , India . The degree field contains many indications that there might once have been water , e.g. B. Canals, Chaos and Deltas . The region is also known for the fact that Opportunity landed here on January 25, 2004. Mars 6 crashed here.
