Local fire chief designates the head of a volunteer fire brigade at community level in Thuringia . This also applies to communities with several district fire departments. The district fire brigades are led by a military leader. The relevant legal norm for the local fire chief is § 15 ThürBKG. In cities with a volunteer fire brigade without a professional fire brigade , the local fire chief is called the town fire chief . In communities with a professional fire brigade, the head of the professional fire brigade performs the duties of the local fire chief.

Election and appointment

The local fire chief is elected by all active members of the fire brigades in his community, the fire chief is elected by the active members of his brigade. Only those who are members of the operations department and who have the necessary knowledge may be appointed. Exceptions to this can be permitted by the supervisory authority. The volunteer fire chief and the military leaders are appointed honorary officers.

tasks

The duties of the fire chief include:

  • the right to make proposals to fill management and underpass functions,
  • Ensuring the operational readiness of the fire brigade,
  • Advice to the mayor in all matters of fire protection and general help as well
  • Protection of the people deployed in the event of fire or disaster.

Insinuation

The fire chiefs of the individual districts are professionally subordinate to the fire chief. In cities with professional fire brigades, the military leaders report directly to the head of the professional fire brigade, but a representative can also be elected. This representative then represents the interests of the volunteer fire brigades vis-à-vis the community and the head of the professional fire brigade.
