The group of Dresden artists appeared in 1904 with their first exhibition in the Emil Richter Art Salon . In 1908, the group joined the then newly founded Federation of German and Austrian Artists' Associations under the name Local Association of Dresden Women Artists . This represented the first supra-regional interest group for female artists in the arts and crafts in Germany.

In 1912 the group of female artists from Dresden had around 50 members. Among the full members are u. a. listed: Doris am Ende , Tilla Jahresig-Lohr (later first chairwoman), Adelheid Kohlschütter , Gertrud Schäfer , Helene Schurig and Flora Zenker . Other well-known members were Erna Lincke and Lucie Prussog , who both joined the Dresden Secession in 1932 .

history

In 1906, Emil Richter had his second collective exhibition with almost unchanged cast. In 1908 another exhibition followed in the Arnold u. a. with Doris am Ende , Helene Gammius , Hildegard Koch , Paula Kohlschütter , Clotilde Schilling , Berta Schrader and Lina von Zieten .

The local association of Dresden artists had "supporting members". Princess Mathilde of Saxony was won as an honorary member and sponsor in 1912 .

In 1910, the purchase of paintings for the newly built Dresden City Hall was advertised in the amount of 34,000 Reichsmarks . The amount was divided equally between purchases by the Dresden Art Cooperative and the Dresden Artists' Association founded in 1909 . The local association of Dresden artists publicly criticized the fact that not a single work by a Dresden artist was purchased.

The local association of Dresden women artists also campaigned for the admission of women to study at the Dresden Art Academy . Women in Dresden were denied access to state studies in art until 1919. In April 1919, the previous statute that "female persons" were not allowed to be admitted was changed to "women are generally admitted".
