Oruaiti is a small settlement in the Far North District of Northland on the North Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
Oruaiti means in the Māori language something like "place where there is a small pit '".
geography
The settlement is located around 33 km east-northeast of Kaitaia and around 40 km northwest of Kerikeri on the Oruaiti River , which flows into a tributary of Mangonui Harbor around 3 km south-southwest . The New Zealand State Highway 10 runs through the settlement.
history
In Oruaiti once stood Oruaiti Chapel , considered the smallest church in New Zealand and now in the Kiwi North Heritage Park of Whangarei is.
