The Oscar Fredriks Church ( Swedish Oscar Fredriks kyrka ) is an Evangelical Lutheran church in the Swedish city of Gothenburg and belongs to the Swedish Church (Svenska kyrkan) .

history

It was designed by Helgo Zettervall and built from 1889 to 1893 in the neo-Gothic style. The architectural style is not based on that of Nordic churches, but rather on the great cathedrals of continental Europe. The name of the church refers to King Oscar II , who visited the church in the Olivedal district in 1898. The Dahlinska Berget hill was chosen as the location .

The church was restored in 1915, 1940 and 1974. The polygonal tower is 60 meters high. In the interior of the three-aisled Oscar Fredriks Church, the color green dominates.

Furnishing

The three-part altar ( triptych ) was created by Ivar & Lars Lindecrantz, the painting is by Erik Abrahamsson. The life of Jesus Christ is depicted in several motifs .

The two rose windows date from 1893 and were painted by Reinhold Callmander (1840–1922). Additional windows were created by Albert Eldh (1878–1955) in 1931 and 1938 . He is also responsible for the wall paintings completed in 1915.

The wooden pulpit and the baptismal font date from the time the church was built.

organ

The organ was built in 1968 by the organ builder Olof Hammarberg. Today the instrument has 45 stops on three manual works and a pedal . The small choir organ can also be played from the main organ.
