Oscar Jozef Joliet (born September 13, 1878 in Ghent , Flanders , † February 3, 1969 there ) was auxiliary bishop in Ghent .

Life

Oscar Joliet was ordained a priest on February 20, 1902 . He studied theology and philosophy at the seminary in Ghent and at the Belgian seminary in Rome. He received his doctorate in Philosophy (1901), Theology (1905) and Canon Law (1907) at the Pontifical Gregorian University . In 1907 he became a teacher and leader of the Small Seminary in Sint-Niklaas. In 1919 he became rector of St. Bavo's Cathedral in Ghent. From 1919 to 1927 he was professor and director of the Grand Seminary in Ghent. In 1927 he became rector of the Belgian Pontifical College in Rome. From 1945 to 1947 he was an official in the diocese of Ghent and in 1947/48 he was vicar general.

Pope Pius XII appointed him on April 17, 1948 titular bishop of Constantia in Arabia and auxiliary bishop in Gent . The Bishop of Ghent Karel Justien Calewaert consecrated him on June 29, 1948 as bishop ; Co-consecrators were Jean Marie Van Cauwenbergh and Léon-Joseph Suenens , both auxiliary bishops in Mechelen.

In 1959 he resigned from some offices, and in 1964 also the office of vicar general of the diocese of Ghent.
