Jean Marie François Henri Ghislain Van Cauwenbergh , also Joannes van Cauwenbergh , (born March 28, 1879 in Lier , Flanders ; † April 14, 1950 ) was auxiliary bishop in Mechelen .

Life

Jean Marie Van Cauwenbergh entered the Mechelen Major Seminary in 1899. He was ordained a priest on September 20, 1902 . In 1902 he received his doctorate in Thomistic philosophy. In 1905 he finished studying theology in Leuven. In 1911 Van Cauwenbergh was Vice Rector of the Catholic University of Leuven and on October 7, 1911 canon of the Cathedral of Mechelen . In 1918 he became pastor of Sint Pieter in Leuven; In 1920 he was appointed vicar general . On December 16, 1920 he was appointed papal house prelate.

Pope Pius XI appointed him on December 19, 1930 titular bishop of Synaus and auxiliary bishop in Mechelen . The Archbishop of Mechelen Jozef-Ernest Cardinal Van Roey donated him the episcopal ordination on February 11, 1931 ; Co- consecrators were Louis Joseph Legraive , auxiliary bishop in Mechelen, and Bishop Paulin Ladeuze , rector of the Catholic University of Leuven .
