On September 10, 1974, however, he resigned his state parliament mandate after the suspicion that he might have received excessive parliamentary diets was confirmed. His successor was Alfred Steiner . In 1977 he was sentenced to a fine of 2000 Deutsche Mark for "frivolous tax reduction" . Pauli died of heart failure after a disc operation.
