Persson came in December 2008 in his home country Sweden for the first time in an FIS youth race on an international level. In February 2009 he made his debut in the Scandinavian Cup in Ulricehamn , but did not get beyond the qualifying runs. Persson stayed in the junior division for the time being and only started in April 2012 at the Swedish Senior Championships in Långberget . In the 50 km race, he finished 42nd. In January 2013 Persson won the Stockholm Ski Marathon . At the Swedish Championships in Umeå in January 2014 , he narrowly missed the top 20 in singles and also in skiathlon. A few weeks later, he won the Mattila Ski Marathon . In February 2015 Persson finished second after 42 km at the Orsa Grönklitt Ski Marathon . At the Mattila Ski Marathon 2015 he defended his victory from the previous year.
In summer 2015 Persson started in the Rollerski World Cup for the first time and celebrated his first World Cup victory in the 7 km uphill race in Oroslavje . In Madona , Latvia , he was again on the podium in third place. In August he also celebrated a victory at the Idre race . At the following Roller Ski World Championships in 2015 in Val di Fiemme , he won the bronze medal in the classic 10 km hill climb.
