Oscar Schlitter
Oscar Schlitter (born January 10, 1868 in Lennep , † November 30, 1939 in Berlin ) was a German banker .
Life
After completing a bank apprenticeship at Elberfelder Bergisch-Märkische Bank , Schlitter joined the Essen Credit Institution in 1890 and was appointed to the Executive Board in 1901 . In 1906 Schlitter became a member of the board of directors of Deutsche Bank AG , but in 1908 he switched back to Bergisch-Märkische Bank as general director. In 1912 he returned to the board of directors of Deutsche Bank and was significantly involved in the merger of Bergischen-Märkische Bank with Deutsche Bank AG in 1914 - a very large one at the time.
Schlitter was involved in the development and financing of the Rhenish - Westphalian heavy industry and the German machine and electrical industry, as well as the concentration of the German insurance industry after the collapse in the Weimar Republic .
He was a member of the supervisory board of IG Farben (1931–1935), the German-Luxembourgish mining and smelting company , the Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG , the RWE AG , the Phönix AG for mining and smelting operations , at Mannesmann and was involved in founding the United Stahlwerke AG involved. From 1933 to 1939 he was chairman of the supervisory board of Deutsche Bank AG.
Oscar Schlitter lived on the Berlin Havel island Schwanenwerder . In the summer of 1935 he sold his property and residential buildings at Inselstrasse 8-10 to Joseph Goebbels for 270,000 Reichsmarks . After the war, the villa and outbuildings fell into disrepair and were finally demolished in the 1950s. The Berlin branch of the Aspen Institute was located there from the mid-1970s .
From 1932 to 1939 Schlitter was a member of the Berlin Wednesday Society .
Private
Oscar Schlitter was married to Anna, b. Bandhauer, daughter of Otto Bandhauer, director of the West German Insurance Stock Bank in Essen. The later diplomat Oskar Hermann Artur Schlitter , who was married to Daisy d'Ora , emerged from the marriage .
