Oskar Holtzmann

Oskar Holtzmann , also Oskar Karl Adolf, (born January 20, 1859 in Stuttgart , † March 10, 1934 in Gießen ) was a German theologian and New Testament scholar.

Life

Oskar Holtzmann was born in 1859 as the son of the physicist Carl Holtzmann . He studied theology in Strasbourg, Göttingen and Giessen. In 1883 he became parish vicar in Bickenbach (Bergstrasse) and in 1884 seminar teacher in Alzey . In 1886 Holtzmann became a teacher and co-preacher in Groß-Gerau , before he came to Gießen in 1888 as a licentiate . There he became a teacher at the secondary school and in 1889 also a private lecturer at the university . Holtzmann was married and his son was the Darmstadt mayor and member of the state parliament, Ernst Holtzmann . He was a member and old man of the Academic Theological Association of Gießen, founded in 1880 . During his studies in Göttingen, he became a member of the Thuringia Academic Theological Association .

Services

In 1890 Holtzmann was appointed associate professor of the Ludoviciana . His research and lectures focused on the New Testament . In addition, he remained a teacher, later as a senior teacher and teacher at the secondary school. Holtzmann never received a full professorship (in contrast to his cousin, the New Testament scholar Heinrich Holtzmann ). At times he has taken a leave of absence in order to complete his extensive work of publications.

The University of Strasbourg appointed Holtzmann an honorary doctorate in theology in 1907.
