Oskar Sigmund

Oskar Sigmund (born August 13, 1919 in Karlsbad ; † April 19, 2008 in Regensburg ) was a German composer , organist and musicologist .

Life

Oskar Sigmund grew up in Bohemia. His uncle was the conductor and composer Paul Sigmund (1892-1970). After the expulsion, Oskar Sigmund became a lecturer at the church music school (today: University for Catholic Church Music and Music Education) in Regensburg. From 1973 until his retirement in 1983 he was deputy director there.

Organ music is at the center of Oskar Sigmund's compositional work. In addition, he also wrote piano and orchestral pieces, chamber music and songs.
