Extraction and presentation

Osmium (IV) bromide can be obtained by reacting osmium with bromine under pressure at an elevated temperature.

It can also be obtained by reacting osmium (IV) chloride with bromine at 330 ° C and high pressure or by refluxing osmium (VIII) oxide with ethanolic hydrogen bromide .

Osmium (IV) bromide is a black solid. The compound decomposes in air at 350 ° C in osmium oxide bromide Os 2 OBr 6 .

Osmium (III) bromide can be obtained by thermal decomposition at 300–400 ° C in a closed environment .
