Osvaldo "Ossie" Ocasio (born August 12, 1955 in Carolina , Puerto Rico ) is a former Puerto Rican professional boxer. He was from 1982 to 1984 WBA cruiserweight world champion .

career

Ocasio played his first heavyweight bouts and was able to win from his first 10 8 by classic knockout, one by TKo and one on points. His 11th fight took place in 1978 and was scheduled for ten rounds, which he could also win on points.

In the same year he met the man who only narrowly and controversially against Muhammad Ali and only lost on points against Ken Norton , the Foreman and Lyle captor Jimmy Young . However, Young has never been "the old" since the loss to Norten. The fight took place in Las Vegas . Ocasio won this fight by a split point decision.

The rematch, which took place seven months later in Puerto Rico , was again won by Ocasio on points, this time unanimously. In the same year he boxed against Larry Holmes and, as most experts expected, had no chance. He was defeated by technical knockout in round 7. In 1980 there were two fights against Michael Dokes . If Ocasio Dokes defied a draw in the first fight, he had no chance in the rematch and was knocked out in the first round

In 1982 he boxed for the vacant WBA world cruiserweight title against Robbie Williams. The fight went on and two of the three judges had him in front (one had Williams in front). Thus Ocasio was WBA cruiserweight world champion. He defended his belt that same year against the undefeated Eddie Taylor, in 1983 against Randy Stephens and in 1984 against the undefeated John Odhiambho (Odhiambo only lost to Ocasio).

In the same year he lost his belt to Piet Crous . In 1987 he beat Dwight Qawi and boxed against Evander Holyfield . Holyfield knocked him out in the 11th round. In 1988 he boxed twice against Pierre Coetzer. He won the first fight on points and lost the second on points. Both fights were scheduled for 10 rounds. This was followed by point defeats against Ray Mercer , Tyrell Biggs , Bruce Seldon and Lennox Lewis . He was able to make one fight victorious, this was against Jess Harding. However, he lost his last three fights against Mike Hunter, Carl Williams and Alex Garcia .
