The Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen , located in the old town of Schaffhausen is the largest media company in the canton of Schaffhausen . The company publishes numerous regional and local newspapers , newspapers and magazines, radio and TV stations and several online platforms. Until 2013 the publisher also operated its own printing area. The best-known publication from Meier-Verlag is the Schaffhauser Nachrichten , the only daily newspaper in the region.

media

Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen covers the Canton of Schaffhausen and the neighboring regions with its local and regional publications. The company took over various local titles between 2010 and 2015 and since then has only competed with other media companies in its catchment area for broadcasting.

In 2012, Meier-Verlag launched the Neuhauser Woche for the community of Neuhausen am Rheinfall after the previous publication Rheinfall-Woche had to cease operations for financial reasons. Although Kuhn-Druck AG was specified as the publisher, the editorial team of the newspaper and the acquisition of advertisements were appointed by Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen. The Neuhausen community co-financed the newspaper. Due to a lack of commercialism and because the Neuhauser electorate at the ballot box refused to increase the support contribution to 85,000 francs, the Neuhauser Woche was discontinued at the end of June 2017.

In 2014, Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen followed suit and announced a follow-up publication for the Thaynger Heimatblatt for the new year , which the operator no longer wanted to continue for reasons of age. The municipality of Thayngen also financially participates in the new local newspaper Thaynger Anzeiger .

Also in 2014, Meier-Verlag announced another takeover in Klettgau . In 2011 the owner of the Klettgauer Zeitung from Hallau leased the publishing rights to the publisher of Schaffhauser Nachrichten . The Meier-Verlag merged the local newspaper from the Klettgau three years later with the Schaffhauser Landzeitung from the Schleitheimer Verlag Stamm + Co. AG, which in turn was created in 2008 from the merger of the Schleitheimer Bote and the Anzeiger vom Oberklettgau . Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen has been the publisher of the Klettgauer Bote since 2015 .

The former subsidiary "SOBAG", which provided services in the online area, merged with Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen in 2017 and was continued as a separate department. The former web development agency SOBAG then became the new subsidiary of Meier + Cie AG, the Meier AG Agency for Communication and Web Development, in 2019. This offers u. a. pressure

Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen has long been active in both sheet-fed and rotary printing. However, the two printing divisions were discontinued in the 2000s.

Sheet printing

Between 1971 and 1975 the publishing house built a new offset printing and bookbinding shop in Feuerthalen, and later the prepress department was also relocated from the headquarters in Schaffhausen to Feuerthalen.

In 2003, Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen announced a joint venture with the Waser printing company from the Tamedia media group. This resulted in Meier Waser Druck AG with its headquarters in Feuerthalen; Waser's headquarters in Buchs was given up. Tamedia and Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen each owned a 50 percent share.

After Tamedia had bought Huber & Co. AG from Frauenfeld in 2005, the media group took over 80 percent of the share capital of the printing company Meier Waser AG in early 2006, which then appeared as Huber PrintPack AG and whose headquarters were relocated to Frauenfeld. In Schaffhausen only a print agency remained for market development, customer service and prepress, and the location in Feuerthalen was closed.

Just one year later, in September 2007, Tamedia relocated commercial printing to Flawil AG and packaging printing to St. Gallen K&D AG as part of the consolidation of its printing division, with the result that Huber PrintPack AG no longer operated its own activities. Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen finally sold its remaining 20 percent stake in the printing company to Tamedia one year later.

Rotary printing

In addition to offset printing, Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen operated another printing company, ZDS Zeitungsdruck Schaffhausen AG. This was founded as a subsidiary in 1992 so that the four Swiss workers' newspapers from Schaffhausen, Zurich, St. Gallen and Winterthur could participate in the printing center through their printing company Rotaz AG.

When it closed, Rotaz AG held a 10 percent stake, Meier + Cie AG Schaffhausen the remaining 90 percent. Since the rotary printing press was getting on in years and should have been refurbished or replaced, ZDS ceased operations at the end of 2013.
