The Ostenberghöhle is a natural cave near Bestwig - Velmede in the Sauerland .
It is located in the Ostenberg in the Ostenberg nature reserve on the western slope of the Valmetal in Sparganophyllum limestone in the upper Middle Devon. The cave has a total passage length of 622 meters and extends over several floors. Their location above the valley level is unusually high.
During quarry work, the Ostenberg Cave was cut on the uppermost level in the Bestwig quarry. It was discovered in 1991 by Frank Stratmann from Bestwig and then skied for the first time together with Christian Moetz, also from Bestwig.
The cave is protected as a natural monument and is not open to the public. For the great mouse-eared bat and the pond bat it serves as a wintering quarters.
