history
Rieden am Forggensee in today's Swabia belonged to the Augsburg bishopric . With the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 , the place came to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
Osterreinen was first mentioned in a document in 1302. The place name is derived from "the east-facing Rain (slope)". Most of Osterreinen's houses are actually located on a slope that drops east to the Forggensee .
When the Forggensee was dammed for the first time in 1954, some buildings near Ehrwang, a small hamlet directly below Osterreinen on Alten Straße, had to be abandoned. Up until then, Ehrwang was often referred to as lower Easter cleanliness , while today's Easter cleanliness was called upper Easter cleanliness .
tourism
The location on the Forggensee and the proximity to various attractions in the Königswinkel has made Osterreinen a popular holiday destination. In addition to a few private landlords and farm holidays, there is also a campsite with a beach and its own boat harbor.
