Ostryzja ( Ukrainian Остриця ; Russian Острица Ostriza , Romanian Ostriţa , German (until 1918) Ostritza ) is a village on the right bank of the Prut in the Ukrainian Oblast of Chernivtsi with about 3,600 inhabitants (2004).
Ostryzja is the only location of the same District community in Hertsa Raion and is located at the mouth of 34 km long river Derehluj ( Дереглуй ) in the Prut and at the highway M 19 and the territorial road T-26-04 . The Herza Rajon center is 22 km southeast and the city center of Chernivtsi is 11 km northwest of the village.
The village, first mentioned in writing in 1434, which used to be called Klischkiwzi ( Клішківці ), was in the Principality of Moldova until 1774 . It was then incorporated into the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria within the Habsburg Monarchy as part of Bukovina . The place remained in the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy until after the First World War .
