Oswald Lutz (composer)

Oswald Lutz (born April 23, 1908 in Vienna ; died December 1, 1974 in Bregenz ) was an Austrian composer, violinist, critic and music teacher.

Life

He studied violin with Vittorio Borri , composition with Walter Bricht and Friedrich Reidlinger, and piano with Franz Horak. In 1934 he got the 1st prize in the composition competition of the city of Vienna. During the Second World War he was taken prisoner by the Americans. He then moved to Vorarlberg , where he took a position as concertmaster for the Vorarlberger Rundfunk . In addition to his activities as a teacher (violin, piano and music theory) at the municipal music school in Bregenz, Lutz also wrote as a music critic for the Austrian music magazine and the Vorarlberger Nachrichten .

His works include numerous compositions for orchestra, a violin concerto , three operas, three masses, chamber music and songs. Among other things, he wrote the fanfare for the opening of the Bregenz Festival .
