Oswald Partridge Milne , FRSA , FRIBA (born February 1881 in Balham , Surrey, † January 15, 1968 in Hampstead , London) was a British architect .

Life

Oswald Milne was born to the architect William Oswald Milne and his wife Louisa Katherine Partridge. He attended Bedford School , was apprenticed to Arthur William Blomfield from 1898 to 1901 and remained his assistant until 1902. He then became the assistant to Edwin Lutyens in his office in London until he became self-employed in 1904. In 1919 he established a partnership with Paul Phipps.

Milne was the architect of Nuffield Place at Henley-on-Thames , the home of William Morris , founder of Morris Motors in Oxford, later Lord Nuffield , in 1914 . The English country house is built in the Lutyens style and is now part of the National Trust . His most important works in London include the interiors of Claridge's Hotel and the Eleventh Church of Christ Scientist.

Between 1947 and 1949 he was Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Hampstead , which at that time had about 95,000 inhabitants.

He was a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Royal Society of Arts , of which he was Vice President from 1959 to 1961 under the presidency of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh .
