Oswald Moosmüller

Oswald William Moosmüller OSB (born February 26, 1832 in Aidling , † January 10, 1901 in Wetaug , Illinois ) was a Benedictine monk and author .

Life

He was sent to the United States of America as a novice novice on May 18, 1852 . He made his solemn vows on January 14, 1855. He was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on May 18, 1856. From 1859 to 1861 he worked as a missionary in Brazil . He then became the head of the Sandwich Monastery in Ontario and held that position until 1863. He then became prior of St. Mary's Church in Newark , New Jersey . He left this position to become procurator of his order and to work as director of the St. Elizabeth seminary in Rome . He subsequently became prior and chamberlain of St. Vincent's Abbey until he became superior in 1874 of St. Benedicts Abbey in Atchison , Kansas . From 1892 to 1901 he organized and directed the new Cluny Abbey in Wetaug, Illinois. He died in the monastery of Cluny in 1901.
