Othmar Rauscher

Othmar Rauscher OCist (born September 27, 1919 in Engelbrechts , † July 2, 1995 in Bochum ) was an Austrian Cistercian and abbot of Schlierbach Abbey .

Life

Rauscher attended the Schlierbach Abbey high school, where he entered in 1938. He began his theology studies at Heiligenkreuz Abbey , but soon had to enlist for military service and was seriously wounded near Leningrad in 1941 . He was then able to continue his theology studies at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in theology in 1948. After a brief activity as chaplain in Wartberg an der Krems , he came to Schlierbach grammar school in 1949 as prefect and professor of religion. In 1961 he was released for missionary work at Missio Munich. As a photographer he created audiovisual aids for missionaries. In 1971 he was elected abbot of Schlierbach Abbey. Resigned in 1983, he found a second home in the Archabbey of St. Ottilien . He first worked at Missio Munich, then from 1984 to 1988 at Ostpriesthilfe / Kirche in Not . From 1989 to 1992 he worked as a corporate donor in the diocese of Augsburg . In 1992 he returned to Schlierbach and helped out in pastoral care. He died in 1995 as a result of a traffic accident .
