Othmar Zaubek

Othmar Karl Matthias Zaubek (born July 15, 1949 in Vienna ; † November 24, 2014 ) was an Austrian local researcher and science journalist.

Life

Zaubek studied folklore at the University of Vienna with Leopold Schmidt . Since 1966 he has been active in science and local history. There are around 80 independent publications and around 1,000 newspaper and magazine articles.

He mainly dealt with topics from the Waldviertel , with a focus on history and folklore . As a hiking scholar of the modern style, he was involved in numerous local customers or wrote or edited them entirely himself. For many years Zaubek edited the cultural reports in the magazine Das Waldviertel and wrote countless book reviews.

Another focus is wind music research , which he carried out for all of Lower Austria and beyond. He is the author of a fundamental work on the subject. He is also a founding member of the International Society for Wind Music Research in Graz.

As a result of his research, he had repeatedly settled in different places in the Waldviertel, since the 1970s he had lived in the Grafenschlag community , where he was also buried in the local cemetery.
