Ottenhausen is a district of Steinheim with 503 inhabitants in the district of Höxter , North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Ottenhausen was first mentioned in a document in 850. During this time Ottenhausen consisted of individual farms that were united in a market association. The ownership rights changed frequently, including the Corvey Monastery , the Lords of Lippe and the Counts of Schwalenberg owned estates in Ottenhausen. Until the secularization in 1802 the place belonged to the Hochstift Paderborn and was then annexed to Prussia. On January 1, 1970 Ottenhausen was incorporated into the town of Steinheim.

Museums

A local history museum has been set up in the farmer's castle in Ottenhausen , the oldest building in the town from the 12th or 13th century.

Buildings

The Catholic parish church of St. Marien was built between 1900 and 1901 in the neo-Gothic style.

The Heimatverein Ottenhausen operates a 40 hectare network of biotopes with numerous lichen and field hedges, pollarded willows, orchards, rows of fruit trees and wetlands. In 1991 Ottenhausen was selected as a participant in the model project Ecological Village of the Future . The five-year model project for ecological village renewal began in 1992. This was followed by participation in the federal-state project Dorf 2000 - Examples of sustainable village development within the framework of the Expo 2000 . The 40 ha area of ​​the biotope network system was purchased by 2019 with the help of supporters, including the NRW Foundation . The Heimatverein Ottenhausen has been maintaining 500 pollarded willows and 250 old fruit trees since 1992. The association planted 30 pollarded willows, 700 fruit trees, 50 oaks and 20,000 hedge plants. 28 bodies of water were created. The association has had a herd of 15 cattle since 2000. In 2019 the association was awarded the Rolle vorwärts prize in the Innovation category for its biotope network system from the Westphalian Homeland Association. The biotope network connects the nature reserve Bellenberger Wald and nature reserve Norderteich with Napetal .
