Otto Büchel

Otto Büchel (born January 6, 1949 in Vaduz ; † January 8, 2005 in Balzers ) was a Liechtenstein politician (VU) and cycling functionary.

biography

Büchel grew up as the eldest of three sons in Ruggell . He attended secondary school in Eschen and then completed a commercial apprenticeship at Hilti AG in Schaan . There he worked as a financial accountant for the next 40 years.

During his political career, Büchel was a member of the Ruggell municipal council for 16 years, during which time he served as vice chairman and school council president for four years. In October 1993 he was elected to the Liechtenstein Landtag for the Patriotic Union . He was re-elected in 1997 and 2001 . In September 2003, Büchel resigned for health reasons. Deputy MP Alexander Marxer replaced him .

Büchel practiced an active club life. He was particularly interested in cycling. At the age of 18 he already worked as an actuary for the Veloclub Ruggell and the cycling association. From 1968 he became active as a member of the jury and jury president and has accompanied countless cycling events over the years, including the UCI Road World Championships in 1983 in Altenrhein . From 1978 to 1988 Büchel was President of the Ruggell Veloclub. From 1988 to 1995 he was President of the Cycling Association. In 1995, he was unanimously awarded honorary membership of the Cyclists' Association for his achievements in cycling.

The soccer player Martin Büchel is his nephew.
