Otto Flimm (born May 18, 1929 in Cologne ; † February 10, 2020 in Brühl ) was a German entrepreneur and President of the ADAC .

Life

Otto Flimm was born as the son of Carl Flimm, who ran three wine and spirits stores in Cologne. He attended from 1940 in Huerth newly established only middle school in the Cologne area and left her in 1947 with the GCSEs . From 1948 to 1950 he trained as an industrial clerk .

In 1957 he took over in the post-war continuing as liquor wholesale company his father's company, the main product the very popular in and around Cologne since 1952 bitters Kabänes produced as complementary responsibility. In 1976 the company was enlarged and relocated to Brühl. In 1992 he handed over the management to his son.

With his wife Christa, who died in 2008, he had two daughters and three sons. The eldest son died in 1962. Otto Flimm died on February 10, 2020 at the age of 90 in the Marienhospital in Brühl as a result of an accident and was buried on February 19, 2020 in the Südfriedhof in Brühl.

Functionary activity

As a teenager, Flimm was primarily interested in automobile and motorcycle racing . In 1950 he joined the ADAC and founded the Brühler Club for Motorsport in the ADAC in Brühl. Between 1952 and 1954 he was two-time German motorcycle champion in the class up to 500 cm³ with an NSU Max . In 1950, under his chairmanship, a sailing department was added, which is located at Heider Bergsee , one of the lakes in the recultivated southern area of the lignite mining area near Brühl. He was also the chairman of the Birkhof-Ville riding and driving club, which operates an equestrian center in the Rhineland Nature Park .

In 1959 Flimm was elected to the board of directors of ADAC-Nordrhein. From 1972 he was 1st Vice President of the ADAC, from 1989 to 2001 President. In 1981 he founded the “Yes to the Nürburgring ” development association, which was about to close at the time. A street there was named in his honor. On his initiative, the ADAC was founded in the GDR in March 1990 . He was also the promoter of the European Automobile Club cooperation; since 1991 they have been working together in ARC-Europe. When he left the Presidium, he was given the honorary presidency. Afterwards, the passionate motorcyclist was one of the patrons of the MEHRSi association , which strives for more safety for motorcyclists.
