Otto Friedrich Wolf , pseudonym: Wolf-Oschatz (born February 8, 1855 in Oschatz ; † June 23, 1940 in Munich ) was a German painter .

Life

Otto Wolf was born in Oschatz as the son of the carpenter painter Wolf. He had three brothers and two sisters. At the age of 14 Otto Wolf came to the Meissen porcelain factory as a flower painter. A short time later he began his artistic training at the Dresden Academy as a student of Ferdinand Wilhelm Pauwels . Kaiser Wilhelm I bought the picture from Florian Geyer and Wolf received a scholarship abroad. In 1879 he went to Paris to study with William Adolphe Bouguereau . On November 4, 1882, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under number 4280 and studied with Ludwig von Löfftz.

Wolf found his political home in the NSDAP , of which he was a founding member. He died on June 23, 1940 as a result of a stroke . The cremation took place on June 26, 1940 in Munich.

The exhibition "Bildwerke Oschatzer Künstler" in the auditorium of the Hans Schemm School from February 22 to March 17, 1941 showed, among other things, 21 paintings and studies by him.

In 1886 he created his greatest work, Christ and the Adulteress , which received critical acclaim and was printed in magazines.
