Otto Grahe (born July 29, 1887 in Schöppenstedt ; † November 22, 1963 in Hamburg ) was a German architect .

Life

After his practical training as a bricklayer , he completed an apprenticeship at the Buxtehude building trade school , then worked in Braunlage , Oschersleben and Beeskow . In 1927 the local council in Welzow hired Otto Grahe as the local master builder . Its first important tasks were the road construction and the expansion of the water pipes.

“The special architecture of Otto Grahe catches the eye at first glance . An example of this is his house (built in 1930) on the corner of Berliner Strasse and Cottbuser Strasse. One of the first objects he realized was the extension for the administration building of " Eintracht " in Sportlerweg. The building is one of the most attractive buildings in Welzow due to its stately clinker brick facade . The building complex of the fire station designed by Grahe with the 23 m high riser tower , made up of cubes, dominates the market square and has become the urban landmark of Welzow. "

In a 1930 edition of the trade journal “ Bauwelt ”, the Welzower fire station and a commercial building in Chicago were named together on one page as examples of modern architecture . In 1928 Otto Grahe worked on the designs for the plant fire station with medical station for the " Eintracht Braunkohlenwerke und Briquettfabriken AG zu Welzow " ("Eintracht") in Fabrikstrasse and on the cemetery chapel with morgue. The Pushkin School on Spremberger Strasse and the chapel on Friedhofstrasse were designed and built by him in 1932. His last project was the community bathing establishment, which opened together with “Eintracht” in 1934, which according to various records was one of the largest and most beautiful in Germany at the time.
