Otto Hölke

Otto Hölke (born July 21, 1938 ) is a former German handball player .

Life

As a youth, Hölke was district champion in javelin throwing with a distance of 54 meters . In 1959, coming from Kamminke on the island of Usedom , he went to Leipzig to study at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) after he had not received the desired place in Greifswald . The 1.75 meter tall player had been used in the back room of the Ahlbeck handball team, while at SC DHfK Leipzig he occupied the right outer position, although he was right-handed. He played seven international matches for the German Democratic Republic . He was GDR champion with Leipzig in 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1965 and 1966. In 1965, Hölke completed his studies with the diploma thesis "The design of performance tests for throwing goals in indoor handball".

Hölke, who won the European championship championship with Leipzig in 1966 , played for SC DHfK until 1969 and was known for his daring leaps into the circle, worked as a sports teacher at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig .

In 1980, after visiting his siblings who lived in Sweden , he did not return to the German Democratic Republic, but initially stayed in Sweden for a week before going to Hamburg in the Federal Republic. In 2003 Hölke moved back to the island of Usedom.
