Otto Hansmann

Otto Hansmann (born August 20, 1834 in Cologne ; † 1875 ) was a German sculptor and stonemason .

Life

Hansmann was the son of the sculptor Johann Hansmann and a student of Christian Mohr . He ran his father's studio until 1873.

He made the statues of Ludwig Weise (Wyse) and Mathias Overstolz that were erected in 1859 at the Traine'schen Haus at the corner of Blaubach and Perlengraben. Around 1870 he worked on the new building of the facade of the Cologne City Hall after the Altenmarkt, among other things, a number of medallions with imperial heads in the frieze of the upper floor. He made various sculptures at Cologne City Hall. Artistic co-design of a facade at a secondary school in Cologne 1867–1869 as well as joint sculpting work on the central building of the new city ​​theater in the Glockengasse with Wilhelm Albermann .

At least 333 sculptures on Cologne Cathedral are counted among his works. A high cross on the Frimmersdorfer Friedhof is also considered his work, as his name as a stonemason can be read in the sandstone.
