Otto Just

Otto Just (born May 19, 1854 in Thamsbrück , † 1931 in Berlin ) was a German ministerial official.

Live and act

His parents were pastor Johann Carl Ludwig Just (1826–1902) and Anna Friederike Hedwig née Rupprecht (1829–1903). In 1882 he married Käte nee Schollmeyer (1858–1942).

Just attended grammar school in Mühlhausen and devoted himself to studying law and camera studies in Leipzig and Greifswald from 1873 to 1876 . During his studies in 1873 he became a member of the Leipzig University Choir of St. Pauli in Mainz ( German Choir ). In 1876 he worked as a court trainee in Benneckenstein, Heiligenstadt, Nordhausen and Ellrich and in 1881 was promoted to court assessor at the district courts of Lüneburg and Hildesheim. From 1882 to 1884 he was a district judge in Freiburg / Elbe. In 1885 Just changed from the judiciary to the administrative service as an unskilled worker at Landdrostei Hildesheim . There he rose to the government council in 1887. Otto Just gained access to the elite of the Prussian administration in 1891 when he was appointed unskilled worker in the Prussian Ministry of Public Works. There he rose in 1893 to the secret government council and 1896 secret upper government council. The high point of his career was between 1905 and 1910 as director of the Reich Office of the Interior. At the same time, Just represented Prussia as an authorized representative in the Federal Council from 1908 to 1910 . In 1911 he took temporary retirement. After the outbreak of war in 1914 he was reactivated and appointed as Reich Commissioner for the control of attacks against civilians in the areas occupied by Germany. He held this position until the end of the war in 1918. After that, Just worked from 1918 to 1922 as chairman of the Reich Office for the Promotion of the Textile Industry, until he retired in 1922. After his retirement he was a member of the supervisory boards of Nordstern Versicherung, Verkehrwesen AG, Akkumulatorenfabrik AG and Joseph Fraenkel Baugeschäft Aktiengesellschaft in Berlin.

From 1907 to 1918 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for the constituency of Lüneburg. There he was a member of the National Liberals for the most part.

Otto Just also made a name for himself as chairman of the Association of German Civil Service Associations and the German Civil Service Association. As a member of the Court of Justice for the decision of conflicts of jurisdiction, he mediated in numerous proceedings.

During his service time he rose to the Real Privy Council with the predicate of excellence. Just was the holder of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and crown, a knight of the 2nd class with the Star of the Order of Merit of St. Michael and holder of the Order of Albrecht, 2nd class with swords.
