Life

In 1916 Laible was in military service , from 1919 he trained as a chaser in Karlsruhe and Pforzheim . He then studied at the Baden State Art School in Karlsruhe, where he was a student of Georg Scholz and Walter Conz . In 1922 he attended the Karlsruhe School of Applied Arts , where he became a master student of Ernst Würtenberger . Thanks to a grant, he made his first trip to Paris in 1924 , and five years later he settled in Karlsruhe as a freelance painter. In 1933 Laible was proposed for the Villa Massimo Prize , which, however, was rejected by the National Socialists because of his Francophile predilection and was crushed.

In 1944, his Karlsruhe studio was destroyed in a bomb attack. After the war he founded the artist group Der Kreis with Karl Hubbuch and other artists . In 1947 he was appointed head of a drawing class at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe , where he was professor in 1949 and deputy rector in 1957/58.
