Otto Lemke
Otto Lemke (born September 5 or September 15, 1877 in Parlin , district of Naugard ; † April 16, 1945 in Berlin-Hermsdorf ; full name: Otto Bernhard William Lemke ) was a German architect and municipal building officer .
Life
Lemke, who originally came from Pomerania , took up his post as town architect in Eilenburg on March 1, 1904 . During this time, the city had high tax revenues due to the pronounced industrial structure. The prosperity was reflected in the expansion of the city in the area southeast of the old town. The Eilenburg magistrate entrusted Lemke with the planning and construction of numerous buildings. Lemke also benefited from the friendship with the then mayor of Eilenburg, Alfred Belian . Various representative monumental buildings, some of which can be attributed to Art Nouveau , were built in Eilenburg according to Lemke's plans . In 1915 he received the Royal Order of the Crown, IV class. Lemke, who was later appointed city planning officer, was also a member of the Eilenburg magistrate around 1927. When the National Socialists came to power and Alfred Belian was expelled, he too left Eilenburg. Otto Lemke died on April 16, 1945 in Berlin-Hermsdorf.
Most of Lemke's buildings, which were built for public institutions, survived the Second World War, in contrast to the old town, largely unscathed; the majority of its buildings are now listed .
