He held lectures and courses for apprentices and attended a four-week course himself to train workers and trade union secretaries. In doing so, he came into contact with Karl Sonnenschein, who, after completing his doctorate, brought him to the Office of Social Student Work in Munich-Gladbach as the first research assistant .

Professional activities

After his return to Austria he became secretary of the General Association of Self-Help-Based Employment and Business Cooperatives in Austria (since 1930 Austrian Cooperative Association , ÖGV) under the association's attorney Karl Wrabetz and initially worked there in addition to looking after the consumer associations with the development of a draft new cooperative law. His articles also received attention in the foreign cooperative press and he was at times an employee of the "Blätter für Genossenschaftwesen" in Berlin .

In addition, he was a lecturer in economics, poor affairs, technology and ethics of club life at the Teachers' Academy of Education and at the United Specialized Courses for People Care.

During the First World War he also took over the affairs of credit unions and other commercial cooperatives. He also worked in the secretariat of the First Vienna Consum Association, where he was employed as a secretary from 1917.

Management functions in the Austrian cooperative system

In the General Association he was elected to the select committee and was deputy chairman from 1924 to 1933.

From 1923 to 1927 he was chairman of the supervisory board of the Österreichische Zentralgenossenschaftskasse (since 1974 Österreichische Volksbanken-Aktiengesellschaft (ÖVAG)).

In 1933 he played a key role in the founding of the Association of Austrian Consumer Associations, which subsequently accepted most of the consumer cooperatives and civil servants' associations that had left the General Association of Self-Help-Based Employment and Economic Cooperatives in Austria (from 1930 Austrian Cooperative Association, ÖGV) .

As the first association attorney of the new association, he sought rapprochement with the Central Association of Austrian Consumers and stood up for the maintenance of the consumer cooperatives, which is why he was appointed to the administrative committee of the GöC (large purchasing company of Austrian consumer associations) in 1934 and acted as its chairman until 1936. He then worked as a legal advisor to the Central Association of Austrian Consumers and was forced to live in retirement during the National Socialist era.
