Otto Martini

Otto Martini (born December 11, 1902 in Nuremberg , † September 1, 1979 in Murnau ) was a German cameraman , film director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

The son of the actor Ferdinand Martini received his training at the Research Institute for Photography and Cinema Technology. In 1924 he started working as a subordinate cameraman at Emelka .

Martini turned mainly to the documentary film . He only took part in feature films occasionally, including as co-cameraman in some of Karel Lamač's comedies . His contribution as one of five cameramen for the mountain film classic Der Berg ruft von and with Luis Trenker was Martini's last feature film work in 1937.

He then moved to the documentary film department of Universum Film (UFA) , where he was responsible as a cameraman and also as a director and writer for some productions. In 1944 he was transferred to the Air Force Propaganda Company.

In 1945 and 1946 he produced passport photos, and from 1947 he made documentaries for the Hamburg-based GEA-Kulturfilm. In 1949 he founded his own production company called Society for Fine Films (GbF). Until 1978 he created various documentary and industrial films as a director, producer and author . For Impulse Our Time (1959) he was awarded the gold film ribbon in 1960 . His son Ronald Martini (* 1929) also made documentaries, research and industrial films.
