Otto Nowak (painter)
Otto Robert Nowak (born November 12, 1874 in Vienna , † March 27, 1945 in Senftenberg near Krems) was an Austrian history , genre and portrait painter .
Life
Nowak graduated from the general drawing school, was a guest student at the Vienna Academy in 1891 and, from 1893, a full student at the general painting school under Julius Berger . He also learned at the master school for history painting under Siegmund L'Allemand and Franz Rumpler . From 1899 he was self-employed as a painter and also gave painting lessons.
He was friends with the Austrian architect Max Hegele . Hegele had a house in Weidlingau near Vienna, where Otto Nowak and his wife Hedi Nowak-Reimer spent many summers. Both artists were members of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.

In addition to drawings, gouaches and watercolors, Nowak created portraits and history pictures in oil, landscape paintings, religious art and small-format genre pictures in which he depicts a Biedermeier Vienna of the 19th century. One of his preferred motifs was the life of Franz Schubert , of whom he drew portraits, illustrations of his life in Vienna and the surrounding area and his music. Otto Nowak's works are accessible in the Wien Museum .
