Otto Nussbaumer (born March 31, 1876 in Wilten near Innsbruck , † May 5, 1930 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian physicist and radio pioneer .

Life

After attending the Landsoberrealschule in Graz, Nussbaumer completed a degree in mechanical engineering at the Graz University of Technology , which he graduated in 1901. He then worked as an assistant at Albert von Ettingshausen's physics institute for six years . Here, on June 15, 1904, he was one of the first to transmit music wirelessly - with the Styrian national anthem - that is, the first radio broadcast . However, Nussbaumer did not pursue the technology he was using any further, possibly he had already recognized that the “spark transmitter” he was using could not be further developed, but that other technologies had to be sought.

From 1908 Otto Nussbaumer worked as a state official in the building department in Salzburg .
