Otto Luedecke

Otto Luedecke (born June 8, 1851 in Teutschenthal , † September 6, 1910 in Friedrichroda ) was a German geologist and mineralogist.

Luedecke obtained his Abitur at the Francke Foundations in Halle and studied natural sciences (geology, botany, chemistry), philosophy and economics at the University of Halle (and a semester in Strasbourg ). In 1876 he received his doctorate in Halle under Karl von Fritsch (The Glaucophane and the Glaucophane-bearing rocks on the island of Syra ), then was an assistant at the Geological Institute in Halle and managed the collections and qualified as a professor in 1878 (crystallographic observations). In 1884 he became an associate professor.

He dealt mainly with mineralogy and published an extensive monograph on the minerals of the resin. He also published on mineral deposits in Thuringia, among other things.

On October 8, 1898 ( registration number 3118 ) he became a member of the Leopoldina .
