Otto Roller

Otto Roller (born February 21, 1927 in Oberjesingen near Herrenberg ; † May 10, 2017 in Speyer ) was a German archaeologist .

Otto Roller studied prehistory and early history in Tübingen , where he received his doctorate in 1955. In 1954 he came to Speyer, where he worked in the preservation of historical monuments and in the Palatinate History Museum . In 1964 he became a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute . From 1977 until his retirement in 1992 he was director of the Palatinate Historical Museum. During his time as director the general renovation of the museum building and the construction of the new building for exhibitions, which opened in 1990, took place. From 1977 to 1993 he was executive chairman of the Palatinate Historical Society .

His main scientific interest was research into Roman times in the Palatinate . He gave lectures at the universities of Kaiserslautern and Mannheim.
