Otto Konrad Roller

Otto Konrad Roller (born October 6, 1871 in Archangelsk ; † May 4, 1936 in Karlsruhe ) was a German historian , genealogist and numismatist .

Life

Otto Konrad Roller was the son of high school professor Eduard Roller (1845–1917). After he had passed the Abitur examination in Potsdam in 1893 , he began studying mathematics in Marburg in the same year, but soon switched to studying history with a focus on historical auxiliary sciences, which he completed in 1897 with the Prussian archivist examination. From 1898 to 1904 he worked in the Baden General State Archives in Karlsruhe . In 1902, Roller received his doctorate from the University of Marburg with a thesis on Eberhard von Fulda and his copies of documents .

In 1904, Roller was transferred to the Münzkabinett of the Badische Landesbibliothek , of which he was Wilhelm Brambach's successor from 1922 until his death in 1936. After his death, the Münzkabinett was incorporated into the Badisches Landesmuseum and Friedrich Wielandt was his successor.

In 1910, the Grand Duke Friedrich II of Baden awarded him the title of professor. From 1915 to 1918 he was drafted into the Landsturm in Upper Alsace. In 1919 he founded the Badische Gesellschaft für Münzkunde .

In 1924 he married Elisabeth Gumlich (1893–1979) with whom he had a son and a daughter.
