Otto Schliwinski

Otto Schliwinski (born March 5, 1928 in Moldzien , Lyck district ) is a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Schliwinski grew up as the son of a horse breeder in East Prussia . In 1945 he survived the air raids on Dresden . In Essen he became a planning engineer in bridge construction. He worked in this profession until 1978. But Schliwinski began studying painting and graphics in Gelsenkirchen much earlier. Training as a draftsman laid the foundation for dealing with forms of artistic expression. In 1979 he started his own business as a freelance painter and graphic artist. He worked first in Essen, later in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .

He attended the Folkwang School in Essen after his first artistic studies . Since 1961 he has exhibited in more than 60 solo exhibitions around the world. He was visiting professor at Sydney College of the Arts and Brisbane College of Photography and Art .

Exhibitions

His first solo exhibition took place in 1961 in the Ruhrland Museum in Essen. His travels took him to all five continents, exhibitions and study trips to more than 74 countries, often through the mediation of Goethe Institutes. He also worked as an ambassador for East Prussia.
