Otto Schumann (politician, 1903)

Otto Schumann (born January 22, 1903 in Riesdorf , district of Jerichow I ; † January 1948 ) was a German politician and member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt .

After eight years of elementary school, Schumann studied at the Buckau R. Wolf Dreher machine factory in Magdeburg . A wandering of several years followed. In 1919 he joined the free trade union movement. In 1922 he became a member of the KPD . He worked in the Communist Youth Association (KJVD) . At times, however, he was chairman of the Magdeburg branch of the Socialist Workers' Party in Germany . In the time of National Socialism there was a large resistance group around him at Buckau-Wolf. He was arrested in 1935 and 1943 and sentenced to three years in prison for illegal activity .

After the end of the Second World War , he became involved again with the KPD. As early as April / May 1945, a new works council was formed for the Buckau plant of the Buckau R. Wolf machine factory, to which Schumann initially belonged as deputy chairman. He later became chairman of the works council. With the forced unification of the SPD and KPD , Schumann became a member of the SED . He worked in the central party apparatus and became chairman of the SED in his company. Schumann became a member of the FDGB and belonged to the district executive of this union. In the first election to the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt in 1946, Schumann was elected to the state parliament in constituency 2 for the SED.

In the 1930s and 1940s Schumann lived at Zinckestrasse 6 in the Fermersleben settlement in the Magdeburg district of Fermersleben . He died suddenly at the age of 45.
