Otto Tiefenbrunner

Otto August Tiefenbrunner (born June 22, 1902 in Kurtatsch ; † June 2, 1972 in Vienna ) was a born South Tyrolean, Austrian lawyer and resistance fighter.

Life

After graduating from the Franziskanergymnasium Bolzano, Tiefenbrunner studied law at the University of Innsbruck , where he also obtained a Dr. iur. received his doctorate. He was a member of the Catholic student association AV Austria Innsbruck in the ÖCV . Tiefenbrunner left Austria after completing his studies, but decided to return to Austria and was naturalized. After the court year in Landeck 1929/30 he worked in a trainee practice in Innsbruck from 1930 to 1933 . From 1936 to 1938 he had his own law firm in Bruck an der Mur . On November 15, 1938, he was banned from working.

From the spring of 1942, Tiefenbrunner became involved in the anti-fascist freedom movement in Austria (AFOe) . He was arrested on March 8, 1943 and charged on June 9, 1944 with "preparing for high treason". In the trial of the People's Court in Vienna on August 15, 1944, he was acquitted for lack of evidence and transferred to the police prison on August 16 by the Gestapo .

After the end of the Second World War he worked as a well-known lawyer in Vienna. From 1961 to 1968 he was chairman of the “Club of Vienna Lawyers”.
