Otto Wild

Otto Wild (born November 8, 1898 in Trostberg , Bavaria; † September 23, 1971 ) was a German barrel painter and impressionist .

Life

Otto Wild was born on November 8, 1898 in Trostberg in Bavaria as the son of Josefine Margareta Wild. The church painter Rauschensteiner from Reith im Winkel discovered the barrel painter Otto Wild. Thereupon he got him a state scholarship from Professor Stöckel at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg . When he was called up for military service in 1915, he was sent to the front in Flanders , where he was released in 1916 after a serious wound and was able to continue his studies. In the 1920s, Otto Wild followed Otto Modersohn's footsteps to Worpswede , where he developed his love for landscape painting and his impressionistic painting technique. He completed his unmistakable style on his travels to Holland , Paris , Venice and Madeira . During these years, pictures of his travels were created, whereby it was not the object itself, but the light on the things that brought the motif to life. At the end of the 1920s he was successful and so it happened that Otto Wild set up a studio at an elegant address in the Körnerhaus at Poststrasse 37 in Hamburg . Hamburg harbor motifs found sales and adorned offices and villas of Hamburg merchants. After the Second World War his diligence was unbroken, but the quality of his pictures suffered from the serious illness that prevented him from developing his talent further in the 1950s.

On September 15, 2019, an episode of the NDR's Lieb & Teuer program was broadcast, which was filmed in Reinbek Castle and hosted by Janin Ullmann . In it, a late impressionist oil painting by Otto Wild was discussed with painting expert Barbara Guarnieri, which shows a shepherd with sheep in a landscape.
