Otto von Fürth
Otto von Fürth (born November 18, 1867 in Strakonitz , Bohemia , † June 7, 1938 in Vienna ) was an Austrian physician and chemist.
life and work
Fürth studied medicine and chemistry at the University of Vienna from 1887 and then with Franz Hofmeister in Prague. He followed Hofmeister to Strasbourg in 1896 and from there returned to Vienna in 1905, where he took over the chemistry department at the Physiological Institute. From 1929 he held a chair for medicinal chemistry at the same university . After the National Socialists marched into Austria , he was dismissed from the university as a Jew and died shortly afterwards. His field of work ranged from the isolation of adrenaline to all areas of biochemistry .
In 1966, Otto-Fürth-Gasse in Vienna- Donaustadt (22nd district) was named after him.
