Life

Otto von Kotzebue grew up in Upper Bavaria. After dropping out of the humanistic grammar school, von Kotzebue did an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and then studied architecture at the Munich University of Applied Sciences . He got further inspiration for his artistic work on his travels, most recently in 2010 on his two-month road trip through 40 states in the USA.

His studio is in Munich on Heßstrasse, directly behind the Neue Pinakothek . His studio is open to visitors after registering by telephone. Otto von Kotzebue is one of the regular participants in Art in the Karrée of the Open Ateliers in Schwabing and Maxvorstadt.

Kotzebue's work primarily includes large-format oil paintings (around 1050 mm × 1300 mm) but also smaller watercolors. Recently, smaller oil paintings (around 800 mm × 500 mm) have also been added. Places, scenes and impressions from his travels can be found again and again in his pictures, which he reproduces and interprets. In recent years he has also made a name for himself with his large-format stage sets - u. a. a name for the carnival balls of the Munich Künstlerhaus - and decorations.
