Ousama Rawi (born May 3, 1939 in Baghdad ) is an Iraqi-born cameraman for international film.

Live and act

Ousama 'Ozzie' Rawi came to the UK as a child and went to school in Scotland . When he arrived in London , he was hired by advertising companies as a so-called tea boy and from 1962 received his film training as a junior production assistant. Soon afterwards he worked as an advertising and short film and (from 1964) as a newsreel cameraman .

In 1971 the Iraqi photographed his first fictional film with the crime thriller Malta See and Die, thanks to the protector and co-producer Michael Caine . After that, Rawi stood behind the camera for five years in a number of British (later also US, French and Canadian) films. These were all conventional, albeit high-quality mainstream productions.

Only a few years later Rawi left the entertainment cinema and moved to Canada in 1977 , where he took photos almost exclusively for advertising and founded an advertising company with two Canadians. In 1985 Rawi temporarily returned to the cinema and directed the disappointing psychological thriller " Bloody Angel ".

In 1994 he moved into his second residence (after Toronto ) in Los Angeles with the intention of establishing himself as a feature film cameraman in Hollywood . Since the late 1990s, he has been behind the camera again regularly for feature films. In the new millennium, Rawi also photographed several large-scale television productions with a historical background such as The Tudors and Borgia .

Rawi was married to British actress Rita Tushingham until 1996 .
