Outlaws (also The Outlaws ) are an American rock band. In addition to groups such as the Allman Brothers Band , Lynyrd Skynyrd , the Marshall Tucker Band , Molly Hatchet , the Charlie Daniels Band and Black Oak Arkansas , they are among the most important representatives of Southern Rock .

history

The Outlaws was founded in 1972 in Tampa , Florida . The founding members were Billy Jones (guitar), Henry Paul (guitar), Hughie Thomasson (guitar), Monte Yoho (drums) and Frank O'Keefe (bass). O'Keefe was replaced in 1977 by Harvey Arnold. With the qualities of Hugh Thomasson, who composed most of the songs, the band created a large fan base in a short time. The band signed their first record deal with the Arista label. The debut album reached number 13 on the Billboard charts . This was also due to their most famous song "Green Grass and High Tides", with which the band was able to convince especially live.

The outlaws had further successes with "There Goes Another Love Song" and "Lady In Waiting". "Lady in Waiting" was also the title of their second album. The effort of a major tour through the States made it necessary to look for a second drummer.

One after the other, Henry Paul, Monte Yoho and Harvey Arnold left the band in 1979. In 1981 the band managed to get into the top 20 with the theme song of their new album "Ghost Rider". For the time being, this was the last major success. Hugh Thomasson remained as the only founding member and dissolved the band shortly after the release of the album "Les Hombres Malo" in order to reorganize them in 1986 after a few solo records. Until 2005, Hughie Thomasson was a permanent member of Lynyrd Skynyrd for nine years and also worked as a songwriter.

The founding members Hughie Thomasson, Henry Paul and Monte Yoho went on tour with the Outlaws again in 2005 through the States. In January 2006 Henry Paul left the Outlaws with Dave Robbins to devote himself to their band project Blackhawk. The Outlaws' last tour in 2007 ended abruptly with the sudden death of Hughie Thomasson on September 9, 2007.

In December 2007, new tour dates for 2008 were published on the band's homepage. The band has since consisted of Henry Paul (guitar / vocals), Chris Anderson (guitar / vocals), Billy Crain (guitar), Jon Coleman (keyboards), Randy Threet (bass), and Monte Yoho (drums).

In February 2020 the band released their 12th studio album Dixie Highway , produced by the Steamhammer label, which received positive reviews.
